Rottweilers - Puppies - Temperament

Rottweilers are basically confident, calm and brave dogs. They do not tend to get friendly easily. On the contrary, aloof and suspicious with strangers, they are faithful and protective of their owner. Aggressive and territorial behavior in Rottweilers can be attributed to poor breeding and lack of socialization in puppies. The typical and the most desirable temperament is courageous and assertive manner.

Rottweilers have a high sense of superiority and are considered a very dominant dog breed. Some are prejudiced against Rottweilers calling them vicious dogs. Rottweilers with unsound temperament should not be used for breeding.

Rottweilers - Puppies - Is This the Breed for Everyone?

It should be stressed that the Rottweiler is not the breed for everyone. It is not the dog that can be friendly with anyone and that will be perfectly obedient at all times. Rottweilers are naturally aloof with strangers. Proper socialization and training are required to teach the Rottweiler how to allow themselves be handled by others.

Rottweilers get along well with children. The key to good relationships with children and other family pets in the house is proper socialization. If the Rottweiler is being raised in a family with children, interaction with them is unlikely to present any problems. However, the dog and your children should not be left unsupervised. Rottweilers are very intelligent and highly trainable dogs.
